The Mounts of the Palm: A Beginner's Guide

Lines get all the attention, but seasoned readers also look at the mounts — the fleshy pads on your palm. Each mount is named after a classical planet and reflects a part of your character. A full, firm mount means that quality is strong; a flat one means it is more subdued.

The seven mounts and what they mean

• Mount of Jupiter (below the index finger) — ambition, confidence and leadership. Full: a natural leader. Flat: humble, low-key.
• Mount of Saturn (below the middle finger) — responsibility, discipline and seriousness. Full: studious and steady. Flat: light-hearted.
• Mount of Apollo / Sun (below the ring finger) — creativity, charm and a love of beauty. Full: artistic and warm. Flat: more practical than flashy.
• Mount of Mercury (below the little finger) — communication, wit and business sense. Full: persuasive and quick. Flat: quieter, more reserved.
• Mount of Venus (the large pad at the base of the thumb) — love, vitality and warmth. Full: passionate and energetic. Flat: cooler, more measured.
• Mount of the Moon (Luna) (base of the palm, pinky side) — imagination, intuition and emotion. Full: dreamy and creative. Flat: grounded and literal.
• Mounts of Mars (two areas, upper and lower palm) — courage and resilience under pressure.

How to read the mounts

Press gently and notice which pads feel fullest. The most developed mount points to a leading trait in your character — for example, a strong Venus suggests warmth and zest for life, while a strong Moon suggests a rich inner and imaginative world.
